Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

first of - this is so cool work Kurt! I wouldn´t know how to do myself but I think I´d try to work on the appearence of the different parts of the surface. right now the material looks kind of similar on the whole creature - teeth, skin, boney parts. it appears to be a bit like plastic. please don´t be mad at me - it could also be my perception which might be wrong. I would try to give the major skin part a liquidish style and the arm part - I guess it is a bone or something - a different material than the skin. maybe less bumpmap or another pattern of bump like scratches or something. right now the creature is very homogenious in its surface apperience alltho there is showing up different physiologic body materials. sorry for my lack of explanating capabilities. but it is also very subtle. hope you know what I mean.

__ edit:

na, plastic was the wrong word. it´s just the absensce of different surfaces worked out like mirek03 said with translucence.

everything starts and ends in the right place at the right time.

man, Kurt, we get by with a little help from our frends. Jay's advise hit the spot. beautiful depth of field now. My crit.., i miss the taslucent look of the 'skin.' i lved that texture, and thanks for telling me how you greated that nderwater look. i would have been playing around in a fluid container awasting time if you hadn't let that workflow out.

Kurt stop being soo damn good user added image

Nice render, the water looks nice. The model is really groovy (60's moment there). Nice bump although I would reduce it slightly on the claws things to give them more of a shell like feel.

Now just get it recorded and up for download... Come on now mush, mush mister user added image

kurt said in an earlier post that he just posed the creature, it's not rigged. it's possible he will do that later, but not in the near future. it's simply great art at the moment user added image
