This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

New PC

I got my new PC so i'm gonna get back into Maya user added image

Check this out...
Athlon64 Dual Core 4400+
1GB Ram (gonna upgrade this to 2 hopefully)
GeForce 7800 GTX
300GB HD
19" TFT Monitor

Do you think this will run Maya! :nod: user added image

man i wish i hadn't looked at this post...lol...i'm still stuck on a p3 850.....512 ram and 18 gig hard drive...crappy graphic card...

no really though..nice comp....did you get a deal on it?...i should look into getting a new one myselfuser added image


PS...i think maya should run smoothly enough on your new computer...lol

Urg -- the 7800 GTX really is crappy for Maya compared to the 6800 Ultra which you can then softmod to a Quadro 4000.

But than again, if you never touch hardware particles/hardware render... who cares? Enjoy your purchase, looks sweet.

Edit: I just checked out Alias.com which states that no GeForce serise card supports (or rather, is ideal for) Maya, but a quick check on CGTalk i found loads of topics on this, many people saying it runs fine. Besides the Quadro cards cost an arm and a leg.

Anyway, Maya runs fine for me. Actually it worked pretty much ok with the last card i had - GeForce256 user added image

i've got GeForce v9520 128 MB. it works all right for a while and then, some parts of the maya UI stop refreshing, and then the system restarts...

I just upgraded recently too, isn't it great to know that you can actually do stuff without stupid lag and disk writing now? user added image

Hey

hey i have a amd 4000 sd 300 gig hdd 2 gigs of dual core ram and a 6800 gt geforce 256 ddr vid card and maya runs smoothly on it accept when doign liquid simulations.
