Where'd "MAYA" come from?

Just wondering if anyone knew where the name came from.

the ancient mayans of south america. im pretty sure they used that name for the software because both were influential and ground-breaking in there ideas and tools and stuff. it all comes down to the term "advanced" which maya is, and so were the mayans.

if that made sense, haha

Autodesk = No money LOL thats funny!!

Anyway dont bite the hand....

Maya has got a couple of meanings, it really depends on where you are from, The Hindu one which Steve mentioned already, also it has another meaning in Hindu too its the name of a godess and is the same in roman as well.

I always thought that the name 'Maya' refered to two things: The Sanskrit word meaning 'illusion' and the concept of illusion in Hindu and Dharmic philosophy. Its a fitting name in my opinion.

Anyways, this reminded me of something. How do you pronounce 'Maya'? Me and and friends always say it like this: 'May-a', but the people in tutorial DVDs and a couple of other people I know say it differently: 'My-a'

Which one is the right way?

Think that might be the slight differences in american and english, In a product demo by Autodesk the guys there all called in My-a, where as in quite a few American tutorials ive herd it refered to as May-a, then again ive heard both in both english and american!

Bit like Zee brush and Zed brush for Zbrush

haha, well thats my take on it anyway!
