This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with
complex objects.

Looking good so far, been having a bash at one of those (slightly different model from a blueprint) myself this month and enjoyed it a lot. Shown at the bottom of this thread;
I have 2 diffrent the joints that will join the legs to the main body, which on do you like. I'll proberly use the first one but i just want to get your opinion
No great wizardry. I looked at it myself when I was starting mine, and it is open in the toolbar in the screenshot you posted
I don't think it's a bad thing to follow tutorials at all, as you say you can add things and change things as you want. I find they are a good foundation for expanding things further.
