What if you used the cut profile, but reduced it a tiny bit, like scale to 0.99... Then the wather wil go "into" the hull, but due to the fact that the hull has a tichness (you made the hull tich? just not a single surface???), not show up on the inside of the boat.

Water plane will intersect anyway mate.

You can always render in layers ... and play with them. user added image

This animation is is cool, i bet you feel the pain of all thos CG artist that worked on the real movie now! I Wish i knew more about the dynamics to help you, but i don't. could you use some wire deformers? Lol just ignore me if not, but it sounds like it would work........

I love the "wake" that the boat leaves in the water!

Wow, almost two months and no updates. user added image

Well, I started working on this again. Played a bit with render passes and compositing etc. Here's the initial result. It's a short one but I'm gonna complete this bit before doing the other shots/angles. No particles in there yet either. C+C is welcome as I'm not 100% pleased with the look so far.

sweet work man, just a suggestion: maybe you could get the waves crash off the boat if that doesn't kill your comp

Thanks for wasting your time reading this line.

I'll be doing that with particles. I'm also going to add some mist particles emitted from the crests. Gotta nail down the look of the software renders first. Then it's easier to tweak the look of the hardware particles...

Thanks!

great animation... I think that the water animation is cool... but I noticed that when the waves change dirrections and stuff, that the caps don't change as well... can that be edited? can you animate the texture as well??? Just wondering,
Brian

brian: thanks. that's one thing to fix (i hope i understood you correctly). i can't go back to change the ocean geometry behaviour anymore since i would need to re-animate the boat too. gonna have to try and fix it by animating the texture(s)...

jakek: it's a mix of polys, nurbs and subdivision surfaces...
