That must have been smart.

I can see what you mean about the texturing thought. I will do a plan rendered version and see where I will go from there.

this site, SM, has made me very humble. I'm heading back to my MAYA foundation book. Before I do, Tim, I gather you make all these parts and then some how fit them to place and glue them.

what is it this model is made of, and how do you glue the pieces together?

all thos wires or pipes, are they eruded curves?

The more i look at this the more i shrink...

Not quite like that.

It's more simple im afraid. I make the individual things like pipes (just cylinders stretched) and then place them. Some other bits are more complicated of course but that's it in a nut shell. That's basically where you should find hope, if you look at it as one thing it looks bit and scary and complicated. Break it down and see it for what it is and you find that you can do it.

Good luck with the future models.

your quick on the model, quick on reply, I thought you sat next to your computer all day, I do.
anyway, how do you 'glue' them; group, parenting,?? They don't say that in my book. and when you have glued them.., do you trim the inside of the model so it is 'empty, like a shell (how) because I think that has something to do with render times?? I mean if there is geometry inside geometry??

What's happening there?? and by the way, your tip (tips and tricks) for tearing off the camera panel and placing it on another screenuser added image

I was quickly going through the thread, but mainly to look at the pictures, I could not read all of it it's too long.
But I simply had to stop and give credit for this. I'ts awesome I love the detail and hope to see this finished. Lucky you Star destroyers are symetrical.

great work

I just have them in layers for the moment, there is no need to group them or anything like that at this stage because I am not animating it yet. As for cutting them, I haven't. I have been careful full not to have geometry inside but there are just edges poking through to the inside (if you see what I mean).

I have done this with many of my models and I have had no problems. If I were doing a human or something like that then it would be a different matter.

As for tearing of a panel you just bring up the two view screen and on the left select the view you want and just click Panels --> Tear off.

farbtopf:: Cheers for your comments, nice to see that I am heading in the right direction.

Well, that's it for tonight. Of to bed until tomorrow.

It's been a while, sorry about that. Had a few problems and am also getting ready for a short break in Bruges.

So this is what I have been working on since I last posted. More of the same to be honest. Got a few more side bits like this to do and then it's on to the gubbins in the middle. You know, the filling to the Star Destroyer sandwich. user added image

Got Karate tomorrow and some more packing so I don't imagine I will be doing any then but hopefully should have some progress to so at the end of Monday.

See you then. user added image

Cheers dude.

Am I right in thinking (looking at your avatar) that you have modeled a Dyson?
