WoW expansion censored

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/03...wotlk_censors/

Your typical video game censor person goes after depictions of sex, coarse language and violence in that order.

Not so in China...

China has banned Wrath of the Lich King because the Undead show too much (wait for it) bone!

But Night Elves in skimpy outfits doing a sexy dance are OK though... :p

I wonder what Jack Thompson has to say about this...

because skimpy night elves are fit and healthy unlike the undead who aren't :p

what a novel reason to ban...

In some cultures its impolite to show bone, like teeth and such, maybe China has one such culture, I don't know.

I say if its part of their culture either they will have to live without the game or Blizzard have some serious censoring to do.

But at the Olympics, everyone was smiling... Or did they do that so their western guests would feel more at home?

As I said, I don't know, that's only thing I could possibly think of.

china has porn - but the private areas are blocked out - weakest porn ever. Hot Asian babes running around in sci-fi costumes looking hot but when they get down to it you see nothing but pixels.

Heres what eurogamer had to say over the whole WOW thing

World of Warcraft's second expansion Wrath of the Lich King has been twice refused release by the Chinese government for censorship reasons, say reports. That's according to Chinese web portal Sohu, as reported by JLM Pacific Epoch and spotted by Massively. Sohu quoted an unnamed insider, saying that "content that didn't meet requirements" was the issue. "Skeleton characters" (already largely removed from the existing Chinese version of WOW) and "a city raid" were singled out for censors' opprobrium. It's said that the new Death Knight hero class, one of the main selling points of the expansion, wasn't even included in the version submitted for approval by the game's Chinese operator, The9. The Chinese censor's problem with undead imagery presents quite a hurdle for Wrath of the Lich King. The expansion is largely concerned with a crusade against the Scourge, a vast army of the undead. Roughly a third of World of Warcraft's 11 million players are in Asia, and naturally a sizeable proportion of those are to be found in China, one of the world's biggest markets for online gaming.

Seems like china wants to respect the dead abit more than us

Now we know what kind of porn you watch Lol :p. Reminds me of when I was a kid and the scrambled cable porn cleared up for like 2 seconds, wooot.

In all seriousness, I'm playing the game right on my Death Knight no less, so its weird reading they weren't included in the Chinese release as I can't imagine there being much point in this expansion without them :s. Seeing as how undead themes are pretty much everywhere here, Blizzy's got some serious compromising to do if they want China's $$.

That's Japan you are thinking about... I don't think China has porn...

Back to Japan, what is rather amusing is that tentacles are considered not to be "you know whats", so pixels are not required... :p

@ Chirone: lol!

People over there get paid money to play games 24/7... Instant Profit!!!
