This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.

Can you do this?

I want to take a flat clube, (not completely flat) and place it up against a disfigured sphere, and make the cube wrap around the sphere. Can I do That?

Thanks.

never really used the tool much, but i think the Sculpt deformer should do the trick (in the deform menu)

Animation menu:

DEFORM > NON LINEAR > BEND

Might work?

Depends on how you want to do it.

A sculpt deformer will make an indentation in the object that is the size of a control sphere, which is created when you make the deformer. You can resize or move around that control sphere, or do something like parent it to your spherical object.

To make a sculpt deformer you just pick "Create Sculpt Deformer" off the Deform menu in the Animation menu set HOWEVER your deformed object MUST have enough resolution to bend around the sphere. Kicking up the number of U and V divisions in the history node will get you there with a simple object like a plane... for a more complex object you may have to model again.

A bend deformer will let you bend the deformed object in one axis. This yields a different effect, but might be more like what you want. Again, making the deformer creates a control object that you have to manipulate to get the deformation.

The purple color just indicates that the shape is being driven by an expression or a deformer.

in order for any of these suggestions to work, you're going to need geometry in a surface

OK. I select both of the objects. The object im using has about a few thousand faces. I do Deform > Creat NonLinear > Bend

They both turn purple, nothing else happens. What do i do from there?

As indicated in the image, click on the Bend input in the channel box. Then adjust curvature. You can also select the deformer, press Ctrl A for the Attributes, and adjust it there.

Select only the vertices you want affected, and then apply the bend.

I'm sure the nonlinear deformers will be a tools vid sooner or later. user added image
