Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

New Character Modeling

I'm having some issues here. The edge flow just doesn't look right and I'm not sure why on the top of the head the edges are not straight. I already merged the vertices, deleted the faces and extruded them again and it still looks wrong. Any suggestions / help is appreciated.

Thank you.

Some thing like a over lapping poly, try deleting a poly at a time and rebuild as you go along................dave

merge the verts globally on a low setting on the head, thats why those areas are looking funky.

when you do poly smooth and the faces do a funny twist like that itsa dead giveaway of unmerged verts

Hi daverave / jay / Acid44,

Thank you all for your reply. It was very helpful indeed. I tried and tried and end up redoing the whole thing again. So far is going well and is taking one step at the time with the extrude edges.
Also the Normals>Conform came handy Acid44, thanks mate.

Here's an update. I'm particularly is liking the edge flow for this one. More organized.

Forgot to attach the image, sorry. I really much prefer the edge flow on this later version than the first one. It's more natural and goes with the flow. user added image

No problem. If you turn off 2 sided lighting in the viewport while you model, it makes it a lot easier to spot that sort of crap before it becomes a problem. With normal modeling it isn't really an issue, but sometimes when it comes time to render it can be horrid

Is this model based on anything? Looks pretty cool
