Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Quick TopMod/Maya model

Well- I have just been experimenting with TopMod and found that you can create great looking Mathe style models. I made this one's base in TopMod and the majority in Maya.

Rendered with Indigo 0.5.6 (with the new ultra-cool IOR materials!)

Rendered with HDRI for 4hrs 22 mins, 1350 mutations per pixel, no bidir (won't work with bidir)

Thanks, arneoog! Did I mention, it was exported via my Maya->Indigo script? (hand edited for the HDRI, but still user added image)

Tsk tsk tsk, again underestimating the power of Indigo... the render finished in 4 hrs 22 mins :p

edit- the setup? Umm. 4 days, 22 hours, 33 minutes, 12 seconds, 76 miliseconds, 22 microseconds, 88 nanoseconds :lmao:

No, setup took a minute. not even.

I would update my plugin... but... the game Gunbound (free online Massiv Multyplayer shooting game) is taking up a LOT of my time. That's the most addicting game I've ever played user added image

Well, I think this one looks much better. Any noise left is just JPG artifacts. Rendered for 5 hrs 3 mins. 1600 mutations per pixel.

Yeah its free. I wrote it!!! :attn:

Find it in the Indigo Unbiased Renderer thread in the Member's lounge. ITs just a mass of script. Copy-paste it into your script editor, then copy-paste the output into an XML file. And don't worry if it's slow, MEL itself is very slow. Maya doesn't crash if it just goes white and stops responding. It's still working. Best is to just leave it alone.

Anyway- you can also find the same thing in the MEL scripts and Programmiong forum- Maya->Indigo exporter script.

But, as of now, you need to do a little hand-tweaking of the XML file to add stuff like sun, HDR environment (and so far only EXR's indigo doesn't support HDR). And you need to run my script on Indigo 0.5.3 or higher.

Later,
Matt

quite a good looking render, the lack of noise from an indigo render is welcome as well...

as for the gunbound, i think they ruined it when they added the dragon ranks, let people pay money to get avatars, and also made it so avatars weren't permanently owned... earning gp just to 'rent' angel wings or the chief feathers for a certain amount of time is kinda cheap... especially when you've got those folks that do nothing but super high angle shots with boomer that always hit you no matter what cause they've got the angle hack

i haven't logged in for so long i've probably dropped 3-4 ranks... i used to be a gold battleaxe (without the red ball) but the dropped to silver battleaxe+ (with blue ball) and that was about a year and a half ago so *shrug*
