Meeper

All right, well I have been working on Meeper lately...

I hate the feet and mouth right now....

CnC is welcome...this is a WIP right now....Texturing, rigging, and animating still to come...

And a question...if I want to UV texture out the guy...do I have to use my smoothed poly model? Can I UV out the basic poly, then smooth and not affect the UV layout that much post texturing?

As far as I know, it shouldn't be a problem, though I am certainly no expert. As long as you aren't creating any new geometry after you UV I think you will be fine.

I like your model, though I think you need to do a bit more work on the eyes - they are looking a bit blocky. Also the transition from the arms to the wrist.

Good work, though. This has a lot of character. user added image

Thanks for the info on the UVs, I has having a hell of a time splitting things up with the smoothed geometry, so many polys. And ya I noticed the eyes needed to be smoothed out a lot with some more split edges. As for the arms, I know they looked jacked but its how the reference images are established...I dunno, its kinda like his skin is either saggy, or its like a shirt almost.

Another UV question...does resizing the UV layout of each piece change anything? For instance when I was trying to get it into the 0-1 space I had to shrink the torso piece to get it all to fit. Will that affect my texturing?

Again, I am no expert, but I would suggest giving the most prominent areas of your model the most amount of UV space. Though resizing won't really affect your texture if you're just trying to get it to fit. The best bet is to assign a checkered shader or some other patterned shader so you can see if you have any stretching when you are laying out the UVs.

I like the drawing! And I see what you mean about the wrist area. This should look cool once it's textured.user added image

All right, well I got photoshop...and as the gods would have it, I have to leave out of the state in 2 hours. So I went ahead and just wanted to try my skills at painting UVs. Now it was 300x harder than I thought it was going to be. Maybe I just didnt lay them out as well as I should have. Anyway...here are some super preliminary textures of Meeper...

PS. He is rigged, but I am still working out the kinks...

C&C always appreciated...and some help, maybe tutorials on how to paint textures well would be nice too...
