Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

A Newbie's First Model

Ok, this is my first model ever(other than that cube I madeuser added image ). Please do not laugh too hard. I was gonna upload my sketches, but I don't have a scanner. I know it has no front legs, but I am a newbie and I haven't put more than 10 minutes worth of work into this(you know it can't be good). I will be using this model to learn most of the aspects of maya.

Hi drknow,

it is looking good... user added image

btw. here is a little metod, so you only have to work on one half of the object... I don't know if you use CPS... but it looks a bit like it... user added image

however this metod also work with other polygon objects... you can then just leave the 2. and 5. out of it, which is specific for CPS...

1. chose faces... then select one half of the object and delete it...
2. click the CPS-proxy layer box "empty"...
3. select the "inner" object...
4. get the Duplicate option box... (the black square next to duplicate... in Edit... --> duplicate...)
in the first box at scale... give it the value "-1.000" and select the option "Instance"... and click apply...
5. click the CPS-proxy layer box so it gets an "R" again...

and you are now ready to only work on one half of the object... while it automatic gets updated on the other half... user added image

regards
