Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

What renderer do you use?

Okay then, I get the feeling that very few people are using mental ray to render images from maya. So what else is out there?

1. What renderer are you using and why?

2. If you could use any renderer at all what would be your
choice?

I'm currently using mental ray, because it shipped with maya.

I really would like to use Pixar's RenderMan.

...and that is how I saved the world.

maya software is usually my renderer of choice, simply because i actually learned how to light (and lightlink) a scene properly so it's all i need. every now and then i mess around with mental ray, but i don't really see the need. most people are all about the hdribl cause all you really need to do is click like 4 times and it's "perfectly lit"... it seems nobody puts the time in to light their own stuff anymore. <sigh>
