Dont really think that theres much you can do to be honest, the Gforce series of cards are not qualified to run with maya (although the ones iv'e used never seem to have a problem).

You could try using the hardware render buffer to render the particles as i've heard that this can sometimes get round the problem, have a search in the help files for the hardwarerender buffer and give it a try.

actually,
GeForce cards are recommended, it is ATI cards that are unsupported.

Anyway, i used to have a 6600 and the high quality render worked great, same thing with the Hardware renderer... so idk what the prob isuser added image

Really? Last time I checked, it still said that GeForce was not recommended. Anyways, it should support hardware rendering, my ancient Radeon 9550 does.

To quote from the qualification charts for maya

"There are many cards based on GeForce GPU chipsets. Nvidia and Autodesk do not recommend these cards for use with Maya as you may experience various refresh, display and stability problems and inadequate performance. We suggest you choose from Nvidia's workstation cards instead, such as the Quadro families which are much better suited to high-end 3D packages such as Maya."
