Complex UV Layout in Maya

I found these tutorials on traditional realistic lighting and realistic texturing on gnomonolgy.com. I Have always had problems with realistic lighting and texturing, but these tuts have taught me a awful lot. I have finished my lighting on my scene using the tut and it looks great. I was really impressed by the tut. I cant wait to use the methods for the texturing now to really bring life to the scene. By the way I found out the hard way you cant get shadows on the floor through glass objects, so I deleted them and my lights worked right. Is there a way to make you lights ignore a glass window?I ask because I would like to add some dirty windows. I never new until now what my instructor meant by "If you get a scene looking good untextured with your lighting it will look really good textured."

Looks good, but the background, to me makes it look like the office is ontop of a mountain

I have to agree with gster about the background. The office is looking fantastic so far though + great job on the lighting. For the background maybe you could model a simple tavern or shop over the road with a alleyway on the right. Also I would increase the width of the door slightly since it looks a bit thin for oversized cowboys.

Great start though and look forward to more.

here is the link to the tutorial, the tutorial is cheap also on $6.00 dollars. A lot of info about bounce lighting and converting your lights to mental ray for a really good look, which I have not done yet, that should really make my scene look good.

the bouncelight on the ceiling is a tad bright. I will be adjusting it. Thats the beauty of englemens lighting system you can adjust the lights in specific areas as needed.

It looks very good, i only find it to be a bit to bright and i think you should model a bit of the outside so it breaks up the background image.
The textures themselves need a bit of a touch up to...
