Merging 2 meshes togeth without gaining history.

Hello, im in a problem. I have modelled a head and body as seperate meshes and have rigged the head mesh with blendshapes and a skeleton.
My problem is when i select the head mesh to combine with the body mesh i get this polyunite history command and when i select delet non deformer history to make sure i keep all the rigging on the head i get an error and it doesnt let me get rid of polyunite.

Can anybody point me in the right direction on how to over come this please.

Thanks.
