Seperating Maya OBJ in Max

Hello, I'm exporting a poly model as an obj from Maya, for a client that uses Max. Only problem is when he imports the obj file, the several polygon pieces that made up the model are now one polygon piece. I'm guessing there is a simple command to seperate them in Max, but I dont know it. Anyone know?

Thanks!

why dont you just export the separate peices as different files and merge them in Max?

Cause there's like 20 different pieces. That would be a last resort.
