maya fillet tool

I am following the DT Product Viualisation dvd training, and I have a problem. Here is what I am up to.

I have justprojected a nurbs curve on the surface and cut a hole in my geometry.
I then duplicate the curve and scale it down and position it inside the hole so that i can then use a fillet to create depth to the hole, but when i do so i get a glitch. The fillet is wavy and distorted and doesnt stick to the path of the curve?

post a picture so we can see what's going on - tho i'd imagine it has something to do with the direction of your curves or your fillet options.
