Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Help! My lights are going through objects!

hi,~ I've been trying to put a spot light and casting through objects, but somehow, even though I've turned on used depth map shaodws, the light still goes through. i've been using Render instead of IPR render, refreshed it many times, but nothing seems to block the light is there something wrong with what i've modelled?

Troubled

have you tried to look at your objects' attribute, maybe they are not casting shadows, turn on casts shadow in their render stats attribute.

strange. Have you tried opening a new file and seeing if it's just that file or something to do with maya as a whole?

you should try messing around with the decay rates of the spotlight. Also create an intensity curve for the spot light and mess around with the curve in the graph editor. The problem is not the light itself but the fog goes through the surface. I checked out your file and messed around with and got it going.

Also, in the light's attribute editor, go to shadows and turn on "depth map shadows."

also make the color of your shadow black, in your spotlight attribute it is white.
