Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Bump doent move wuth texture!

HI guys,
I have animated a fractal texture over a plane, I have also attached a brownian bump to it. The question is how do I get the bump to follow the main texture over the animation sequence?

thanks chaps!

Sounds like you need to make a texture reference object. Under the Textures menu in the Rendering menu set.

Hi Mike,
I've just tried that but the plane is not animated just the texture flowing over it, with some bump. The bump unfortuatley didnt follow the texture when I tested the animation..

cheers

So, you're animating a 3D or 2D texture over the surface and the bump map isn't flowing with it. Ok.

Your color map has a 2D or 3D placement node. Your bump map does too. You'll either need to attach the color map's placement to the bump map or copy the animation of your color map's placement in your bump's placement.

You got it Mike!
Im now trying to connect the 3Dnode of the Bump to the 2d texture but the connection editor opens only to confuse things further. Should I load the 3D and 2D nodes into the connection editor or the file texures?? I dunno!.........any help! cheers

Yeah, you won't be able to connect a 3D texture placement to a 2D texture. You'd just have to animate them seperately in the same way to line them up.
