BE aware that if you export to 3ds then all your models will triangulate.

As I stated above the FBX format is the way forward, max maya and XSI all support this... Its free and cheap, but u still need max ...

Or you could pay out over $2000 for Deep Exploration that converts 99% of files to 99% of other files...

if i converted them could i make them quads once they are in maya?

Also, can you explain again what and where i would find FBX?
Is it a plugin or script or something?

FBX is a plugin by Alias (RIP), have a look in http://www.the-area.com to get a copy for Max and Maya.

Also you could quad it once its back in Maya, but it will be difficult and time consuming as it may miss quite a lot of the geometry.

Hey mr. pix, I've found this tool ( Milkshape 3D If I remember correctly it was only $25 dollars. ) extremly useful for converting file types between packages. Just download a model from turbosquid, load it up to Milkshape and export to .obj. Then import to Maya.
