Beer glass scene creation
This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.

Anyone used this Maya book??????

Hi there,

I saw this book at amazon.com.

Maya Character Animation ISBN: 0782141714

I want to know if anyone has bought it and whether it is useful beyond basic stuff? I'm often dubious about computer books as they are quite expensive and often cater for only beginning artists.

In short,

Does this book cover 'Hardcore' (the more complex and time consuming the better) character setup techniques?

I have a lot of books on Maya and I would say that this book is the best one out there. Its all about modeling, rigging and texturing characters using all sorts of methods. If you get it you wont be sorry.

Hey Kevin, maybe you can put up a poll for books and videos and have people vote on the ones they think are the best(or something in that form) - H

Hi there,

Thanks for the replies all.

I bought the book for my birthday (10th May) and sold it again a week later to a friend for 2 thirds the price. I guess I was hoping for something a little more indepth.

btw> there is heaps of stuff in there. Just not much that I hadn't seen before.

You should have gone to a bookstore and sat down and looked through it for an hour or so before you bought it. That's what I do.

Hi,

Yes, that would have been prudent. I heard such a rap about the book that I just paid for it and read it when I got home.

Having ordered the book I felt obliged to buy it.
Oh well, there is always next birthday..........

… a bit more in depth! - I thought this was plentifully in-depth. Perhaps I am just thick user added image. I bought it as soon as it was available, there doesn't seem to be anything out there that matches it for Maya character animation. Unless you look at the books that A/W produce themselves, but they are very expensive!

Sorry gazzamataz I just meant that their wasn't 'much' NEW things that I hadn't seen in tuts around the place before. I was hoping to find quite complex character setup stuff in the book thats all.
