Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

soccer star animation

im working on this clip of a footballer performing tricks.

Its taken me 5 days so far, and ive set myself a completion target of 2 months so should be polished by then.

BTW in case you're wondering the arms have been hidden for simplicity until i come to animate them.

Any feeback, critique and advice welcome

thanx

cool, fun to watch.

the crit i have is the ball seems weightless.
when the foot hits the ball the foot should stop in its tracks and sit still for a couple frames.

and the ball might look a bit better if it squished a bit or a bit more when it was kicked.

and the ball moves a bit too fast.

heres a few tweaks to the curves of character and ball. only subtle.

btw this will look very stiff, as its in the very early stages.

Very nice animation! I really like the simplicity of the model, the movements are very fluid and I really like the slight exaggerations in the ball physics. I can't wait to see this against a city park with hippies and kids in the background looking on. I guess a soccer field could work, maybe you could change the ball to a hack sack, triple the model and have them pass the bag back and forth. This is going on the myspace page. Please stage the releases of updates to youtube, I would like to see the progression

hey nice comments man, thanx. Il keep you guys posted as i go.

The only problem im having is the animation is becoming too long for my playblasts so im gonna have to do batch renders at the lowest quality. Il keep you posted though.

And thanx again, feedback was awesome and any help is much appreciated

To long for playblasts? I thought playblasts could be as long as the timeline?

sounds like you just dont have enough space on your harddrive for them - but I've had problems where playblasts just quit on you before reaching the duration of the animation on my school computers :p

This can be due to a problem in space, some themes with XP, etc. I've read you can right click on Maya and go to properties and run it in win2k mode... some sort of problem with it not automatically purging the cache or something.
