This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

Here i will be posting my questions as i get them. To start off with. How can i seperate one face from a polygon cube. Not 'extract' it, and not delete it. What i want to do, is have one face of a cube, swing open like a door. Thanks guys!

select the vertices around the face you want seperated and choose Edit Polygons>Split Vertices.

Texturing: Is there a way to change the number of times a texture is used for one surface. So if i have a square texture, that is being stretched over one huge object, can i make it repeat. Repeat in stead of strech?

Ultragames, I'm going to suggest that you search these forums for answers before posting here. A lot of the questions you're asking have probably been answered before.

If you go to the thread titled:

Help with projected planes, in the newbie area, this should answer one of your questions. Darkware has posted a thread that pretty much tells you step by step how to set up lanes using the poly plane method - my fav way of setting it up.

Yeah, I'm not sure what that means either. I think he means that I wrote a post on the thread explaining how to stick an image in Maya so you can model with it. Basically, you slap an image file onto a poly plane. To answer your question about repeating textures, bring up the attribute window for your object. (right-click>material attributes.) To the right of the color slider thing, there is a box which usually has a B&W checker thing on it, but should have an arrow icon instead if you already have assigned a texture to it. Anyway click it. The window switches to the texture attribute window. At the top, you will see the name of your texture on one tab and "place2dTexture1" right beside it. Click the "place2dTexture" tab. Here, you can modify how big or small the texture will be, the slant of it, and a host of other things. You can also change how many times THE TEXTURE REPEATS ITSELF. For a 2D texture, you will see "Repeat UV" and for a 3D texture "scale." Increasing or decreasing these values will change how many times the texture repeats.

Sorry guys for the the mis-spelling of 'lanes'. I missed out the p at the beginning. It should say Planes.

Yes I was meaning the post about putting 2d pictures into planes for reference when drawing 3d models.

Sorry again for the mess up.
