This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

Alt-LMB for tumble
Alt-MMB for track
Alt-LMB+MMB for dolly (Alt-RMB if you're using Maya 4.5 or later)

I can do the alt+lmb to spin around(i think thats tumble)
But i dont have a MMB, only a wheel... and its set to close any open programs when pressed.

Any ideas that involve me not chanigng the wheel setup?

Is it possible to make scrolling the wheel zoom in and out?

You can't use the scrollwheel at all in Maya. You might consider reassigning the wheel to MMB, because there are several functions in Maya that need the MMB. If you're dead set against that, then you can use the Dolly tool. It should be on the General shelf and under View > Camera Tools.

BTW I even thought you need the middle mousey botton. I just use hotkeys for the track, tumble and dolly. Just a thought.

Hotkeys work as well, but they can be inconvenient when working in panels such as HyperShade, HyperGraph, and the UV Texture Editor. Mouse buttons are just simply faster. Plus, that makes more keys available for other custom hotkey setups. Just a thought.

Depending on which manufacturer made your rodent, you can map the buttons to different functions in each specific application you use. For Maya, I just shut off the scroll function and use it as MMB. In Photoshop, a click is Undo and scrolling helps with fonts and color palettes and whatnot.

Are you sure you can't change it... becuase that's REALLY stupid for a mouse. If you are right the engineer who designed that should be excommunicated from society for 25 years!

Im sure. i went into the mouse opions for it. It can only be set as 1 of 3 things. Double click, scroll, and Right click. Left and right buttons cannot be changed.
