Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

I'm just finishing up here at work, so gimme a few hours to get home and I'll walk you through ituser added image

Hows that?

In the meantime, essentially, to achieve welding sparks, you simply emit particles via a directional or omni emitter at the time your animation requires ituser added image

We will go over using:
-The Hardware Renderer
-Hardware particle types
-and moreuser added image

would be great and much appreciated, ty

ill just tell you what i wanna make now tho

im making a welding website, to show off my welds / what i build as a portfolio type website to add to resumes

when someone logs on, the top section (title area) will just be 1 color

then sparks would start coming out / falling as if using a plasma cutter or Oxy/acetylene torch to cut thru metal, and id animate the 'cut' to cut out the name of my website

quickly going thru the letters and each letter falling out as its done, resulting in name of website once its all done

figured it would be neat .. but i mostly just need help and assistance with creating sparks (assuming using a partical emmiter, randomizing spark life time, gravity, and clarifying key framming the spark path

i know animation with keyframes etc

but if you think you can be of assistance , would be great

Ty

No problem, however, I just wanted to ask, how familiar with Maya's particle module are you?

Also, do you have and are you familiar with a compositing package?
(After Effects, Fusion, Shake, etc.)

I just don't want to insult your intelligence before we beginuser added image

See you in a few hours.

sounds like you need to do surface emission, 'emit from dark areas!!!'

rage you are up for a full on tut here.., from what i can see WH33Ls wants his logo or brand name to emit particles

how familiar WH, are you with the paint tools, photo shop, ect

man you cant complain about the service on this site user added image

Ok, finally done.

Good news, bad news:

-Good news first:
Attached is the shader and the scene file I made that you can tear apart and learn from.
Just open it, play it for a few seconds, then renderuser added image

-Bad news is after 3 recording sessions, my video is still over 60 megsuser added image
So, I'm going to try to shorten it tomorrowuser added image

Hey rage, if you can't get it any smaller send it to me and I can host it, or send me a pm and I can set you up with ftp on my site and we can host it that way. I have oodles of bandwidth to work with.

you might try putting the example on a motion path.., maybe you could import that as an .AI.., then animate the letters falling out? or push a volume field through it at an angle as the animation moves across the letters????

just a thought

I appreciate the bandwidth help guys, but it has nothing to do with that or compression.

After all, its almost a half-hour long (43000 frames) at 1024x768user added image

Like I said, the tutorial itself is simply too long, so maybe I'll try again tonight to explain it in less than 24 minutesuser added image
