This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

Dog In Prog

Hey Guys N Gals

Heres about 2hrs work so far on a dog thats for my project. It will be a bit skinnier than this once its done. Its one of those strays you would see loose in an old township with tumble weeds and that kind of thing blowing around. Just to put you in the picture.
Crits and trashings as always are welcome.

Looks cool so far. But the back legs look a little strange.

I think the back legs look fine, but there is something that, to me, doesn't look right about how the neck goes into the body. I think I just need to see a picture of the dog though.

Hey Guys

Heres a small update, got all the proportions as near as damn it, been spending more time looking at reference of dogs this weekend and....Christmas shopping AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!! Oh the crowds!!!!!

So I have spent most of this evening starting to put in the leaner areas of the dog cutting in the ribs and the nostrils and shoulder bones. Has anyone seen the inner workings of a dogs skeleton, jeez the shoulder is a weird thing, it looks backwards!!

Hey everyone

Heres an update, reference for dogs is pretty sparse on the web unless anyone knows of anywhere. Anyway just need to do the teeth and do uvs then its off to texture it.

Looks good on the body. There is something weird about the snout though. Sorry I cannot be more specific. It might be that is seems to go a bit bent upward.

I like it! I like it alot!
Its a very clean model with nice form. I dont think that the body is incorrect at all because it is one of those Savannah skinny doggies! Nice!
Looking forward to the texturing. Gonna try some short fur and give your computer some epi-fits Jango?

Thanks Bud, glad you like it. And you got the dog character to the letter!!
Unfortunately I only use Maya Complete as I cant afford Unlimited right now, maybe in the New year, but I may try an expression on a particle or use the plane method using a script similar to the one used in Ice Age, you know lots of little soft body planes all over using a script. But if not, a well executed texture, bump spec and paint fx fur should be fine ( Ihope)
