Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Older style alien

Hello all
My aim with this project is to try to create one of the "Grey" styles of alien but instead of making a smooth skinned, faultless alien i am aiming to make a withered and old one (but not over the top) who is getting on with life. At the moment i have just been blocking out the basic structure from my base mesh. I am starting with a youngish version and then i am going to age it.
My idea for the final is to have him looking out a window or into the mirror and having the reflection be a younger version of him (looking back over the years)
Any-who, Criticize all you want, its better to get that over with while i am still fleshing it out.

Thanks,

Joopson: Yup, the base is from another model that i made, its really simple but i had more control over it in MAYA than i do in Z Brush.

Here is another update. Everything has been simplified a bit more, i went a bit overboard last time. I am still chugging away bulking out the basic structure of his face.

ha ha! great idea for a model some guy - i'm really loving this so far - especially some of those sharp edges on the forehead and cheeks - i'm imagining some cool textures for this guy. the only thing that's bothering me at the moment is that the bottom of the belly looks a little short, even for an alien with weird anatomy. user added image

very nice I've contemplated doing my own take on the old style alien, but this is great to see, too bad you didn't decide to do the whole body (arms and legs)... keep up the good work

Hello,
Thanks for the kind words.
Good spot on the belly Arran, i'll fix that up next time i work on this.
I was thinking about doing a full body on this but i decided not to. I wanted to work on getting a detailed face done without having to worry about doing a full character. Right now i am just working on my skills by doing a few Busts before i take on a full body model.
More updates soon user added image
