Okay I took off the hair because it didnt look right, it was just something I was messing with. I tried to do some UV texturing, but for some reason even when I press '6' I cant see how to align my texture projections, they just look like blurry pixels, and I cant do crap. Any thoughts on that?

So I made a light room for my duder, and rendered him. I gotta adjust the shadows a bit to make it look more realistic but here ya go, a non-hdri shot of my guy, but rendered using mental ray...

Okay, I did a NPRS render of him...I really like NPRS, it gives a nice manga-esque feel.

hey esion this is a very cool looking robot...
I have been wanting to do a robot for so long but i could never find any good references...

Where did you get the reference for this one? did you ust draw it from your head first?

I would like to draw my own reference for a robot, but i need to see some cool ones to go off first...because i have no idea what a robot should lookn like or consists of.

Rigging

Does anyone know how I can material color different in a dgs_material? When I try to change the color it makes the model black...im kinda stumped.

Rigging is being able to make the object move, either by inserting bones into the model or using IK/Fk. The pivots in the bones that allow the movements is the rigged part. At least, that is what i think it means anyway. The bot looks cool though. Fair play to ya.

Hey Traindog...this was the first thing I ever did in Maya, its a pretty old thread. The body of the bot is Blue from the Learning Maya 7: Foundations book by Alias. If you want how to do it you can follow that tutorial and it will look very close to mine. As for the head, I went on my own little tangent and made a Patlabor/Guyver type head, and just messed around with it.

And johnnyos, thanks...ya a few months ago I was lost in Maya's vastness. It took me awhile to figure out what things like rigged and ik/fk meant. Thanks for the run down again.

I know exactly what ya mean about the vastness. I have a mate that uses 3d canvas a lot, and he showed me a good few things aboput maya, although there's so much in it, I doubt that you could ever really know the whole thing.
