I like the steel and the green anodized paint look. the rust could possibly use some bump to rough it up.

Thanks for the little PS tutorials I have been playing with them.

Have not had a lot of time today to do much more, yes a bump map on the rust and were the paint has come of if done right will bring it to life, I must admit that if you know what effect you need you can find most for free on the net, Once I have finish this I promise to do a tutorial then I can get back to my tank still looking for a good scale ref for the M151 weapons system......LOL
Thing to do
Finish of metal
Dirt map
Bump map
Final gather render (never done one but looks easy)........dave

I was hoping someone would go crazy with this rule and make a Jerry Can transformer.

sorry had to start doing some stuff for work.

this could just be a long running challenge for people to practice texturing.

btw,
here are some instructions i've made on how to do rusty scratches.

take 3 images, I have a base metal, rust and some metal scratches.
user added imageuser added imageuser added image

copy and paste the rust onto the base metal as a new layer
user added image

add a layer mask
user added image

go to the scratches image and desaturate it, then crunch the levels so you have a high contrast. Now select all and copy.
user added image

go back to the rust and metal pic. click on channels and show visibility on the layer mask.
user added image

paste in the contrasted scratches. (i have inverted the image too)
user added image

if you hide the visibility again and tidy up the edges. you should have something that looks like this.

obviously you can work this around what you need to do.
hope it helps.

one more thing... does everyone know how to daisy chain bump maps?

Thanks hammer.

I am starting a photoshop tips folder, so I can start collecting this stuff and start trying to learn it. Going to play around with some stuff and yes keeping the can hanging about as a practice piece is a good idea.

I looked at this on my brothers monitor and realized the green gun on my monitor is failing. On my machine the green looks like a dark forest green. On my brothers system its more an light olive drab.

Funny thing is I like the darker color.

Not so funny thing is I now realize I am l going to have to replace this monitor and that is something I cannot afford right now. Oh joy!
