Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Hi guysuser added image

Its been a long time!!

I just got in a mood to create something in 3d.

I have been waiting for a ps3 game to came out, Metal Gear Solid 4. So to kill some time I thought I would recreate the metal gear Gekkou.

If you guys don't know what I'm talking about heres a screen shot.

The legs look really out of place (in the original), but this looks like a pretty cool project.

Hi, Mr The Kings...

Hope your well and WB to SM pal.

I agree with the lags comments, they seem a little odd and out of place. also they seem to be on tip toes!!! Is that the plan or ???

Good work so far stick with it.

Thanks guys!

Well the legs thing, yeah I can see why you would say that, (out of place).

If you guys have a fast connection watch this video, about half way through you will see how they move and fonction.

Metal Gear Solid 4 video

This video is in real time!

If you want there is also a good action scene at the end of the video.

Ah, MGS4. That's probably going to be the only good reason to buy the PS3.

I like how they try to make it so realistic, yet still use that terrible "bloom" effect.

One thing. Why are the robots mooing?

So people would be less intimidated by them when they are coming. Instead of the "roar" or something that they usually have, they moo so people don't suddenly get nervous. It makes people feel more relaxed or laugh or something.

Oh, and here is what I was doing before the 3d mgs stuff.

hey vedic kings - long time - good to have you back! Last time you were on weren't you building shiva? user added image

lots of cool stuff here - the Gekkou is looking very nice - you should be able to do some awesome renders of that.

i have to say though....metal gear.... ugh, not my cup of tea. i think i played metal gear solid 2 - seemed more like a romance novel intertwined with some brief action. not fun!

ha ha...sorry... just had to rant.

Hi, arranuser added image

Shiva? No that was Krishna, and I didn't finish him sadly, someday though.

Yeah rendering is fun using mental ray! By the way what is your render set up, you do some vray nice renders!

Have you played mgs 3: snake eater? That is a great game staring Big Boss, solid snakes father, taking place in 1963, which is before metal gear back in 1986.

But each to their own.

Heres a wire, and a small update.

oh yeah - that's right - it was krishna. my bad. user added image that was a cool model and would definitely be worth getting back in to.

the mr renders that i've been doing, i think, have just been set to preview global illumination, with final gather set to 60 and i was using a couple of mr area lights and a couple of spot lights. i haven't done too much rendering so the settings are pretty much set to default - i'm planning to play with mr's settings once i get everything modeled in my scene.

this model is looking very cool. user added image

all looks good, apart from one thing, it's legs
what I have done is broken down the legs to joints
user added image

infact the mechs legs are very similar to those of some dinosaurs so taking this into account, I have some links that should help you refine the legs

Right now I'm working on old snake (Solid Snake).

I'm going to create a few soldiers as well.

And for those of you who don't know what Solid Snake looks like in mgs4 here a screen shot.
