Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

You can use a set driven key for that Pixal. You create a controller like a locator and create a attribute say gearCtrl with a value range of say 0-50 and then you set a key with the gear in one position say retracted and the gearCtrl attribute at 0 and then move the gear to the extended position adjust all the bits and set another key for the gearCtrl set at 50.

Almost finished with the modeling. Just the prop and rear landing gear to go. Busy trawling the internet in search of some prop blade cross cuts to get an idea of how to shape the blades.

Thanks bullet and ctbram

bullet, thanks for the links. I'll have a look at them when I get home. (Work web proxy issues)

ctbram, I do have a confession to make. I haven't rigged the landing gear yet. Below is my challenge - 5 pivot points!

Joint a rotates in the xy plane.
Joint b rotates in the yz plane.
Joint c rotates in the yx plane.
Joint d rotates in the yx plane.
Joint e rotates in the yx plane but it also rotates around the local y axis (+- 8 degrees) to compensate for the fact the joints a and c are not on the same plane.

The rigging will have to wait until next year. I have just a week left before my holiday and I am focusing on getting the modelling done.

Done with the modeling. For now at least user added image
Need to stop tweaking or else I'll never get to the UVs and texturing.
For a first attempt I am quite happy with the end result.
