Maya Playblast Storage Problem

Hi guys,
this has been really bugging me lately. I've discovered that when I playblast a scene, which is quite frequently, my hard drive space gets eaten up significantly. I have enabled remove temporary files, and also manually remove the files that are written to disk, yet still my storage gets eaten up.

Today I took my computer into Apple and had my disk reformatted (which of course made me reinstall Maya and all other apps). After playblasting ~100 frames, three GB of storage was gone! Not normal!

Does anyone have an idea of where these files are (not in /var directory, already looked)? This is killing me, I'll hopefully be contacting Autodesk tomorrow via phone.

Best,
Colby

It always helps to say what version of Maya you're using. Anyway, what are your format settings when you playblast?

Hi Genny,
thanks for the reply! I think I've figured it out. I'm running Maya 2013.

I didn't have the SAVE TO FILE setting enabled in the playblast window. Someone over at CGTalk helped me out, and when I enabled this setting the problem was solved!

Very, VERY strange, can't quite figure out why it was bogging down my storage, but when I enable save to file - the problem is solved. No more GB lost.

Best,
Colby
