Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

Nice, it's shaping up well. I don't really know anything about planes though. Anyway, you've shared some helpful AO stuff in this thread, I was wondering what's causing the lighter areas just under the prop blades where they're close to the ground plane?

hey stwert

thanks. Yes the area below...I did wonder myself actually as it looks like reflection....but I had a look again and without researching the actual problem I thought it could be that the edge of the blade is so thin there isnt much to occlude from because if you look at either side of the blades theres occlusion because of the possibilty of the surface being wider for the rays to bounce from....speculation of course but could be the case

Here you go Dave, I'm currently working on the fuselage with a Level 1 smooth now, attached, but the main mesh is still present in the scene (see wires on earlier post)

Looks great man. Why so dense on the rear vertical wing thingy though?

The Fin.....

Its only where I cut the hole out and added the supporting loops, but having actually smoothed the geo by one level has just added the extra loops adaptively...they'll be long gone by the time this is all finished....dont worry its not like I haven't seen them either -you should know me by now..... user added image

cheers

can I see the wires on the vent please

So it sounds like the game plan is to subdivide the mesh, add in the finer details and then cull out the unnecessary edges by deleting them or going 3-into-1? Although 3-into-1 on curved surfaces can be kinda hinky.

I dont let the technicalities like that worry me...it just hinders creativity, I'll just cull the necessary parts as and when.....

Will post up a wire on the vents in a bit

cheers

oops I was also hoping to see the associated wire from the fuse. Does it fit into a hole in the fuse? I am more interested in how you're are cutting openings in the fuse.

I just used the hole as a template. As you can see the mesh doesnt resemble the loops of the fusey...I'll show you once this has been fitted and finished....I have a technique that I use to eliminate extra loops from corners on the inside of an extrusion...Something I have yet to see elsewhere.....Could be something of interest

Some times I do it like that, I never posted as I thought it could be wrong in some circles, seeing you use it I will use it more often,,,,,,,,,,,,dave
