Height subdivision question

hi, noob question here
can anyone explain to me why cylinder gets so messed up when adding subdivions to the height?

It looks like you deformed it first. You cant add subdivisions after you alter it.

i think clocker is right looks like you moved some verts then tried to add subdivisions
