Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 1
This course will look at the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. We'll look at what makes a good model in Maya and why objects are modeled in the way they are.

Pole Vector moving whole foot

Alrighty. Read my book, read some tutorials, am about to pull out what hair I have left (no, Witch, I'm not already bald, you mean thing).

First off, I am using Maya 5.0 Unlimited and am trying to rig up my monkey for the challenge.

Steps I did:

* Make all my IKs.
* Group my IKs (toe to self, toe pivot to mid-foot, mid-foot pivot to ankle)
* Create Locator, center on knee, freeze transformations. Repeat for other leg
* select locator and ankle IK, constrain->pole vector
* when I move the locator, not only does the knee move, but everything from the knee down shifts with it. From what I understand, it's not supposed to do that user added image

Having never dealt with this before, I'm sure there's something I'm missing. Help?

Sounds like the grouping might have been messed up a bit.... double check the group.. also see if the ik handels from the heel down are sticky.. maya 5 is a pain that way.

I dont usly use pole vectors in my legs... Once mike sees this he would have some more possible answers...

Ok, this has to be a setting somewhere or a box I've not clicked. I received a properly working skeleton yesterday that did the same thing.

Here's a picture of the problem (sorry it's so large but it's so you can see it). Hopefully someone has an idea if not...

Is it really necessary? The monkey won't have to walk at all. The most he will do is maybe stand up. Otherwise, he'll be sitting.

Hmm, can't say I've run into that before. Does the IK go from hip to ankle? The purpose is to control the angle of the knee in relation to the orientation of the leg, so if you don't need that kind of control, then I suppose it isn't necessary.

Yes, the ik runs from hip to ankle and this whole thing has me stumped user added image As I said, it has to be a box checked (or not) somewhere as another's model which worked correctly for the modeller does the same for me as my monkey.

I will work to figure it out later, but as he will not be walking, I think I'll move on for now.
