Realistic sparks?

Anyone come across a good way to crate realistic sparks with particles. I'm trying to create a fuse, this is what i have so far animated.

You can also see by the image below, even after much tweaking they look pretty unrealistic. Any suggestions?

PaintFX.

If you HAD to use particles, set the particle type to streak and hardware render it. Then, tweak it out with combustion or after effects.

If you aren't restricted to particles for whatever reason I would definately use PaintFx. There are a couple good preset spark brushes that you can tweak very easily to get the effects you're wanting.

Good answer!

I've used that spark brush MANY times for work, and it works great!

ok, thanks for that, i'll take a look at paint effects. Grooveholmes, you said if i'm not restricted to particles, look at paint effects. You can still use paint effects with particle instancer right?
