Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

Is it possible to make rain with paint effects on a ocean, so you can get ripples on the water?

thanks

how close are you going to get to the water? if you're at mid-far distance you wont need the ripples. I would just use hardware rendered particles comped over in 2d and then maybe hint at the ripples with a 2d effect probably.

bit more info please user added image

rain

Hello , thanks Pure Morning.

I want my PaintFX rain to collide with the Ocean surface. At these exact locations of impact , I want to create little wakes (like real rain).
I want to test if it's possble with PaintFX rain and how?

Many thanks,

Bernard

yeah I understand what you want, but what I'm saying is how close will you get to it? because you can fake it if you're not going to get too close to it.

Isn't the tutorial that ships with Maya the one you want. That shows how ripples are created on a pond via dropping an object into it ?

Or am I barking up the wrong tree as usual !!

I'm pretty sure the answer is no. Paint FX are a post process that I don't think can interact with the scene in the manner you want. Then again... I could be wrong.

You can try converting PFX to polys and create a wake.

Although I must say I'm a total noob,
isn't it best to write a MEL which creates random (raindrop-shaped) objects with wake?

Just wondering myself... (if so I will try, have to start somewhere with MEL user added image )
