Fur model test.

Just messing around with the fur features in Maya. One thing that I can't seem to get is the fur reflection to show up on the barn. Any ideas?

Not a clue as to how to get the fur to show up on the reflection, but I like the scene/image. Howd you do the trees? Paint FX?

trees are PFX converted over to Poly Quads. the conversion is incredible and fast. All textures get brought over and are viewable in the Hypershade also. If you don't delete your history after conversion you can stiil control growth, behavour and so forth.

roach, if fur is not avvailable in maya 5.0 in mr best to my knowledge, then it is unlikely that it works in reflections. correct me if it works with mr user added image

the workaround would be to paint some pfx grass arround the cylinders, turn into poly, disable the primary visibility, but visible in reflections. not sure though how close you can go til the fake trick is disguised.

this fur stuff is very render intensive. worse than MR with 500 final gather rays!

i know, i once made a landscape with fur density of 100,000,000 to make it look good (the landscape was 50k polys) - it took an amzing 51 minutes for 640x480 and it did not fit into the 768 mb of ram - i only heard the harddisk for the solid time user added image

The grass reflecting off the little towers is too dark, compared to the actual grass n the ground.

i agree with hybrid. color matching the fur grass and the pfx grass might be a one thing to further enhance the image. and maybe laying a fractal on the reflectivity of the cylinders might help to give it an old and dirty look. i would suggest lowering the reflectivity down a lot. to 0.7 at most - they look like almost perfect mirrors. keep in mind that regular good silver glass mirrors have 0.9 reflectivity only.
