Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

Vuurstorm - May - Texturing

Hi All

I will also be joining in on the texture challenge. I am new to Maya and currently have no clue on how to UV map.

I will be attempting Cadbury.
Will hopefully be starting this weekend.

Next steps

Thanks AlphaFlyte.

I am still experimenting on what technique works best for getting nice squares, If you want I can do a quick tut on what I'm currently doing.

There are still some time left so I decided to download a trial of Mudbox and try that for detailing. We'll see how that goes over the next couple of days.

I don't really completely understand what I'm looking for still with UV's, since I've only UV'd twice, and neither came out great. But it's looking good... really good compared to the two texturings I've done. Keep it up.

My UV technique

The way that I found best to do the UV's is based on a this brilliant tutorial by Richard Cheek found Here
. For me it is a bit easier than going the color route and when splitting the mesh up cylindrical, spherical and planer mappings can be done on any section and then just sewn together if required.

@ Rhetoric Camel

I placed a link on Perfecto's thread (for this month's challenge); check it out if you like...it's extremely basic, but hopefully it'll help you understand what you are trying to achieve by UVing.

@ vuurstorm

I have to agree that that crab UV tut is a good example of splitting up and re-joining multiple projection sections.

As for your UV's; they look good from what I can see, good job! user added image

Restarted Texturing

I made a huge stuff-up with my texturing attempt and decided to redo everything. Hopefully I will still have enough time to finish ... will have to put in some extra effort through this weekend.

I changed the theme of my texturing for my Catbury to be a Dragon Rider.
Here is my second attempt at the body armour. The yellow will be changed to a gold like texture, still deciding whether to keep the orange, thinking of making it a bit darker.

My website is undergoing a major change so my gallery will not be available at present.

Enough blabbering ... Here is my update:

Finished

Thank you R@nSiD and arran for your comments.

My website moved to a new architecture and thus will need some urgent attention for the next week or so. Therefore I have decided to upload a final image - it is in the final thread.

Hope you all like it :p
