Introduction to Maya - Modeling Fundamentals Vol 2
This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

short weapons challenge

What to do
make a hand holdable weapon
it can be anything that's real like a sniper rifle, katana, grenade etc
or anything that doesn't exist as a weapon like a oddly shaped sword, gun with lots of different funky sci-fi augments, or a tonberry lantern! or whatever
go wild

tools
whatever you want to use you can use.
any 3D, 2.5D and 2D app

start-end time
1pm saturday nz time (GMT+1200)
to
1pm tuesday nz time (GMT+1200)
12am (midnight, the start of the day) tuesday UK Time (GMT + DLS)
10pm monday winconsin time (GMT-0500)
4am tuesday kenya time (GMT+0300)

ie, 72 hours after the start date (not the 48 as i originally put up here when i said 3 days!!!) correct me if i'm wrong

yeah i'm in. I've been on night shift this week so i need something to do to keep me awake on saturday.

...i think i'll do a colt or some other kind of classic.

its amazing how many HQ reference images you can get if you want to model a gun!

so, I've decided on the Smith & Wesson Model 29.

i thought of doing a sniper rifle of some variant, because those things are pretty cool, but i'm not going to

doing something a little different, interestingly enough (to my surprise) such weapons actually exist, just not in the complete way i'm doing it

Make the edges harder it's just smoothing out now ... don't get the idea of weapon

it kinda looks like a duel bladed light saber or something that will have something poking out from either side of the grip

i've managed to spend a few hours on this

here's another SM exclusive, until i get better pictures

it's not often bevel works for me...
in fact there is a lot of funky geo going on around some places, but i figure it wont matter so much.. im not skinning this

for such a small thing it's using a lot of triangle already... 54,494 not that it matters too much.. i hope.. i do hope to use this in future

i wonder what i'm making.... you'll see soon enough
