Where is modeling (drop down box)

Hi sorry for the newbie question I am trying to do one of the free tut's and it says make sure you are in modeling mode in the drop down.. However I do not have Modeling in mine, only the following, animation, polygon, surfaces, dynamics, rendering, cloth, customize. Any help? I am using Maya 8.

The things once found in the "modeling" menu set in 7.0 are now found in the "polygons" menu set in 8.0.
