question about fur

ok well this is just a curiosity question but if i were to put a beard on a character how would i go about doing that?

Until someone gives a better, more appropriate answer, you could experiment with selecting the poly faces where you want your beard and attach the fur to just those faces. Or maybe duplicate those faces and tweak the shape, then slighty push the faces into the character and attach your fur.

I don't have fur with my Maya so I'm totally guessing. Just didn't like seeing your thread unanswered yet hehe.

You can paint a baldness map (i.e. where you don't want hair or fur) but I don't know the exact process.

To use fur you need your model UVed, I would use one of the preset brushes like gorilla this will flood the UV parts with fur, I would flood the map now with baldness set the baldness brush stroke to "0" then paint on the fur. If you dont have have fur or hair you could use geo and textures (transparencey mask) but I have not done any myself..............dave
