Lighting - how to set up good lighting

I am newly using Maya and I want to be able to set up some good lighting. I don't know too much of the lighting system. Are there any good tutorials that show the basics of lighting? And then get into the more advanced stuff progressively? I started working on one of the simplymaya tutorials, and it is great, but there are only 2 lighting ones here, and they didn't look like beginner ones.

Any help and knowledge is greatly appreciated.

Look on:
www.gnomononline.com - they've got a section on lighting. There might be something you could use there.
