April Challenge_Lo Poly game character (New design)

Hey all despite not announcing a winner as yet for the March challenge until more entries are in, I thought I'd launch the April challenge.

So... I would like to see a new take or look of a game character of your choice that is already out there, you can style it/make it into whatever you like eg: male into female or vice versa, or mechanical into organic or all of the above.

Use you imaginations once again to run riot.

Rules:

Name threads as: April Challenge_Lo PolyCharacter_Your name

Post a pic of the character of your choice that you intend to change.

All models in by end of April ,textured or not, as its the design we are after.

Final image sizes to be 1024 or if you do a video turntable, use viable links to the usual sites or one of your own. Or even using the open gl high quality render setting to show it off in real time would be ideal. Providing your machines can handle it

Max polycount 16000, should be enough for a good amount of detail.

texture sizes 1024, basically color, spec, bump and normal maps only

no SSS

no hair or Fur, transparencies for hair is still the norm for games really

and no poly smooth preview on the final mesh......

You can use Zbrush or other software capable of adding detailed Normal maps if you want as well. good luck

cheers
Jay

The question is, how should I change kirby? He's already perfect.
I suppose he could be more elephant like....

Either that or I'm going with Crash bandicoot, since that was the first game I ever owned.

That's if I have time to enter, which I doubt....

Jay, question about the challenge rules:
Are things that wouldn't be used in a current game engine still acceptable (as long as the poly count is under 16k)? I'm thinking things like fur/hair, dynamics, SSS.
And if the smooth mesh preview (3) doesn't change the poly count (I know there's a debate about this at the moment) is that acceptable as well for the final render?

Dude

good question, I didnt even think about it really. I really think we should stick to the game look. this is why I mentioned using Zbrush for Normal maps as its part of the game gig so to speak.

thanks for bringing that up. I shall add to the rules.

Erm ain`t SSS and dynamics both used in UDK (not sure on the other game engines) and they do have their own hair/cloth system going in to the new one very soon. But the foucas of the challenge is the modeling so all that stuff is just extra anyway..

Added extra stuff in the rules now.

Im not bothered about what bells and whistels a game engine has or hasnt, none of them use maya sss, hair and fur etc, so Im banning that stuff from this challenge, just gimme some cool sh*t that will kick ass and look better than its previous design!! But in a game styleeeeeeee!!!

Hey Boys N Girls

You have one week left to sort your model out. I will throw another reminder down mid-week, so no complaints of ' I didnt know what year I was supposed to finish or who's the president?' So you will have had two reminders and in good time.....NO EXCUSES!!

I havent looked at very many this time round so it should be interesting to see what new designs you have come up with.

Murtaza: the challenges can be used to improve your skills under a time limit not just trying to be the next guy to the finish line. I cant just make them easy for one person, they have to be of a level that will challenge the artists.

cheers
Jay
