maya 2009 ambient occulsion pass

how do i create an ambient occlusion pass in maya 2009. It use to be in the render layers but it appears to have changed. does anyone know how? thanks

In render layers right click and then go add pass> ambient occlusion. That will add an AO pass associated with your current render layer, meaning if you choose a format which can handle multiple passes like .exr it will imbed the AO within one file along with anything else you associate with that layer.
