Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

September Challenge - Orgee - n00b

Hey guys. I just finished moving back to my house here in Washington State from California (which explains why I had no time to finish last months challenge) and so here i am with my lovely 56k and I saw this challenge and thought of joining it. 2 weeks left. I know (hope?) i can do this by then.

My theme would be the character environment from an 3rd person action adventure rpg. Ill post pics in a couple of hours.

I'll have all day 24/7 till the end of the month to do this. I have nothing to do with my time but be with Maya user added image

killa shrimp terminator bwaha

hey guys. thanks for the comments. killa shrimp lol.

I havent worked on this since my last post here, ive been trying to learn texture mapping, all that UV that was foreign to me, now i can somewhat understand it. I gave this about 3 hours work starting from 7am this morning and so heres what ive came up.

I stopped after the first post because i got stuck in what to add. I looked at the Feng concept and being me, an ex game programmer, i ask myself, what are those for, whats the purpose of it..so ahhh, i got stuck trying to decide whether i should add those looks or not or blah blah. I guess the 1 day away from this work gave me different ideas on what to add. Here are some screenshots, and I will explain the parts of the bot bug thing after:

and some perspective views...

first evil robot specs

Name: Wasp X1..i dunno, help me think of a name

:: Guns ::
- 2 Plasma Rifles (mounted under head) : these rifles cant move left right or up down but the head does so that will take care of the aiming.

- 2 Auto-Targetting Mini-Laser Rifles (mounted on the mid-side) :
like in James Bond: Die Another Day, these will either just shoot the hell out of crap for you or auto-target on incoming slower projectiles such as missles or a big rock or something. These rifles are also capable of moving up, down, or left and right in order to help it track its aim of moving targets.

- 4 Missle Launcher slots (mounted on the front side butt part) : can hold multiple types of missle stored inside the butt part behind the engine. Maybe can hold a total of 32 missles.

:: Engine ::
This thing is paired up with a LEVITATOR (crap name) type of engine. When turned on, the robot just levitates in the air and its height and direction are controlled by the thrusters found in the butt area and the front butt area.

:: Other Stuff ::
You might see sharp edges or scaly looking blade looking thingy ( i dont know what to call it). I dont know what theyre for now. Before I thought of them being sharp blade like weapons, i think they still are, gotta wait till i texture it though.
And the other stuff are just designs and crap to provide a more non-boring look to the machine.

caterpillar now eh. hehe thanks guys. anyway, i think i kinda screwed up.

While reading the rules, I came across the 1500 triangle limit per character. But then I read again somewhere where characters cant go over 3000 triangles..So ehh here:

"3) There are poly limits, but they are not strict. Environments would be approximately 50,000 triangles. Characters approximately 1500 triangles. Characters do have a strict cap, however of 3000 triangles. Do not go over 3000. Environments do not have a strict cap, but don't go overboard. 1 million polys is a no-no. "

and then heres the one under the character concept info:

''Consider this a character, so his limit is 1500 tris''

Well im taking i can still use 3000 tri limit. hopefully :X

next post will be wip of second robot.

1500 is preferred limits. 3000 is the maximum.
