RE: where the hell is that "lightning" tutorial you promised me rage - months ago!!

DUDE?!

I'm still waiting for my client to frickin pay me for my last freelance gig so I can get my new Maya box, till then I've been forced to use my gf's crappy machine that barely runs PS, and emailuser added image

Trust me m8, when I get my machine up and running, you'll be the first to know!

Don't think I've forgotten, or am in any way shoving you off, I'm DYING here w/o maya.....

Actually, now that I think about it, I "Could" stay after work and do it here...

Yeah, I guess I'll have to do that.

So, tomorrow, I'll bring in my mic, and the Vid software to do a few tuts.

Could you get me the most updated ftp info PM'ed to me so I can get these to you this weekend?

My boss is away till the 29th, so now would be the time for me to do it here at work then.

Deal?

PS, along with that powerline tut, I also wanted to do a few more since I've got free acess to my work machines for now...

If you don't have anyideas, I wanted to do something like these:

- The fluid nuke blasts from the end of T3.
- The "Balrog" "man-on-fire" sprite-based effect.

then some things for SimplyPS (if you want it):

*True color correction, one right way.
*Color grading for CG.
*Full-on compositing techniques.
*Rotoscoping techniques in PS.
*Layer modes, and real-world effect uses.

And then of course for After Effects:

- Importing MAYA camera data into AE to match-up shots for compositing, etc.
- Rotoscoping, and matting
- Tracking elements in your shots the easy way.
- Correcting paralax, fun with 3d layers and "Multiplaning".

Sound good?

..or do I sound like an ass-kiss? hehe...

Regarding political / religous views: Are we to quick to stop / close threads and should we allow them?

I say no. I've not seen many political/religious discussions that don't eventually turn into hot-tempered, chest thumping flame-fests. If folks wish to discuss their political/religious views, let them either take it to email, IM, telephone, or a political/religious forum. I don't see how either have anything to do with a 3d modelling program or forums whose primary function is to discuss it.

Language: Do we sensor to much?

No. In a perfect world, we would not need to censor at all as people would be able to apply a bit of self restraint. If you cannot think of something other than expletives, maybe you need to sit back and rethink posting at all until you are a bit more calm.

Angry posts: Do we also close these to quick

No. Once it hops and skips down the path to flamewars and ugliness, it should be closed and the participants told to resume it elsewhere if they so choose. There are plenty of other media available for that.

I have seen on other boards a "rant area" well not so much a rant area but an area where political issues / etc are discussed - my fear is on these is that they can spill over on the other sections of the board.

I dunno. I've seen all sorts of strange "other" areas, such as porn pics, flames, rants, etc. I've not ever seen one that didn't spill out elsewhere, either in content or attitude. It's near impossible to have a flaming row with someone and then respond to them normally and rationally in another thread in a different area. People tend to carry their grudges with them.
Again, I think there are other, more appropriate venues for arguments, rants, flames, etc. than a modelling forum.

Granted, I don't expect this place to be rated Disney as we're all adults here. However, I also would prefer it not turn into a Tarrentino rated area either. :bgreen:

i think what people talk about is fine (mmm boobies) but there are just 2 things which bother me slightly, just havent had the opportunity to bring it up, but its my view so u cant argue with it :p

i think its slightly unfair (and i know im guilty of it as well) that when someone posts a thread about something, and the thread just gets totally sidetracked losing the purpose of the thread in the first place. its unfair to the original thread starter, and those who would benefit from the questions being asked

and i think some mods and admins sometimes abuse their power on the board, closing down/locking threads because they personally dont like the topic or sumthing like that, i can understand it if its something serious, but there have been times where i reckon its just been taken too far

ooh sorry about that, love u all really user added image
