Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Sept/Oct - Noob - Blomkaal

This comp is too cool for me not to enter! user added image

I've decided on Vega from the old Street Fighter games.

Did a quick search on Gamespot, and didn't see any 3D games, but I might have missed them, and I haven't checked all the other threads to see if anyone is doing the same guy, but I hope that doing him isn't a problem user added image

Just a quick one before I'm off to bed, here's the beginning of the torso.

I'm quite happy with how it's turning out so far, especially given the short amount of time I've spent on it...

Alright, got started last night, so now for some background info and refs.

Vega appeared in Street Fighter 2 as one of the four bosses (the 2nd I think), and was the only character in the game using a weapon, his claw. He also used the enviroment, as there was a cage in the background that he would sometimes climb onto and jump off then attacking you.
He also wears a mask, supposedly to protect his face, as he is very narcisistic.

Here's a pic of a toy version of him. It was the best I could do at the moment, and it should give you an idea of how he looks

EDIT: And I plan on making a slightly different look for him... user added image

Tonights update (got handball practise user added image ):

Added abs (still need lots of tweaking), and more detail in chest, ribs and shoulders, extruded edges for the neck and started the shoulder/arm, which I'll probably have to re-do as the mesh is pretty messy...

Looking forward to some c&c user added image

Thanks Shane, well I've got some modelling experience, but when it comes to anything else, I'm all noob! user added image

Might change to the norm category down the road if things work out really well, but none of you should really consider me a rival since, statistically speaking, I won't get it finished in time user added image

Tonight's update: redid the shoulders and upper arms with biceps and triceps. Still need some tweaking though, but it's getting there...

EDIT: I should probably add that I'm going for an exaggerated look, kinda like the one you see in the cinematics of newer fighting games such as Tekken, so hopefully he'll be kinda photorealistic, but at the same time not. Hope you get the idea user added image

nice

Very nice modeling, don't be surprised if they bump you up to NORM, especially since this challenge is mainly modeling.

Keep up the nice work.

Yeah well texturing is required as well, but if I get the model done and have plenty of time for texturing, I'll probably switch to Norm, depending on how satisfied I am with how things are working out for me...

Tonights update: Added the rest of the arm, having some trouble with the back of the elbow though. Also added some very rough legs. I won't add too much detail to the legs as he will be wearing pants...

Hopefully I'll stay focused enough through the weekend to get most of the body finished, maybe even get started on the head or hands...

Kiveun, thanks, I've been keeping an eye on your entry as well, and the model is looking great so far user added image

UPDATES:

Last night (friday): I was pretty spent, so I decided to watch a movie (Der Untergang/Downfall - amazing movie), and didn't get much modelling done.

Today: First update (hopefully there'll be at least one more), been playing around with the idea of giving him one mechanical arm that his claws can retract into. Still more detail to come, and the organic arm is still underneath, so don't mind the few places where it sticks out...

Made some minor updates today, but nothing noticable. Decided however to go find an ingame screenshot. It's from a GBA version of the game, but as far as I can tell it pretty muck looks the same user added image

Will probably start working on the head next.

Not really sure about the shirt I gave him in my previous post...

Nice torso and arms!
Its a pity the holiday clothes cover it up as I think it looks better without them

Yeah I'll probably end up scrapping the shirt and just have him wearing the wifebeater that's underneath user added image

Got started on the head! Don't really know why i bother modelling his face since he'll be wearing a mask though... user added image

At least it's good modelling exercise user added image
