Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

New Challenge - The Random Squid Challenge!

Here is the new challenge!
Its pretty simple. Any one who would like to enter will be given a random page on turbosquid.com (only free models) and you will have to use the models on that page to construct a scene and render a lovely shiny final image.

the number will be between 1 and 338 (i'll use a random number generator)
and you can find your page here
https://www.turbosquid.com/Search/?ke...e=0&page_num=1

You can use all, or some of the models on your page to construct a scene.
you can change anything like, the texture, topology, shaders etc.
The subject can be anything you like. Its coming up for Halloween so perhaps something inspired by that, or maybe something more serious like a really nice interior/exterior scene.
Its best to post a screenshot of the page you get in your WIP thread, as i get the impression turbosquid is updated quite often.

The deadline is the end of October so there is plenty of time and plenty of help available from people on the forum.

if you are interested post here and i will dish out the random pages.

Here is an example i made quickly from things on page 1. user added image

if i had more time it would be even more amazing haha user added image

*NB* i see lots of max files on TurboSquid i'm not sure if this still works but deep exploration can convert them to obj i think.

otherwise try a max trial or some kind person on the forum could help out.

Dom you do not want to use 338 that is ALL pages and includes textures. I played with that last night and if you go that route it's very easy to get a page with no models and just jpg textures.

I think what you want to do is on the left hand side you will see products and in that area there is "models". If you click that the number of pages drops from 338 to 229. So you can short by only pages with models. I think they are still all the free ones.

Everyone just needs to remember to first sort by all models (left hand side under the products section) before they go to their assigned page.

Good luck.

I`m quite happy with the models on my page but I want to clear somethig with the rules.

Now there are no ground planes or sky domes ect... to set up the backgrounds and stuff which leads to the question - are we allowed to create anything and if so what are the limits to this.

I have an idea but would need a ground and sky but it would be clear to what we can/cant do right from the start.

Cant wait to get home from work and start this

yeah, i think its cool if you add stuff like that. I added all those buildings in the example i posted. It is meant to be predominantly a lighting and rendering challenge with some texturing and shading stuff in there too.

Sounds fun Ill give it a go user added image

Last month ended up getting really crazy for me I was promoted to my bosses job and she was fired so there was a huge step up for me but things are starting to calm down again so I should have time to actually finish this project.
